| Description | |
The North West coast of the Iberian Peninsula has been throughout the enturies a major shipping hub for both fishing and trade. The winter storms around this area are also infamous for the large number of casualties and recks they have originated. The tragic loss of human life has stopped thanks largely to the vast improvements in the electronics equipment and rescue services available in modern times. |
| Objectives | |
The objective of this project is to locate, identify and document the state of a number of wrecks in the Galiza area. |
| Deliverables | |
For each of the wrecks we will provide a report containing the following information: -identification: needed for unknown wrecks. -diving conditions: depth, visibility, currents and potential hazards. -details of the accident based on historical records. -video footage. |
| Procedure / Methodology | |
So how are go going to go about finding all these wrecks? well...there is no rocket
science here. As usual most of the work is done in the libraries and bookshops, reviewing the
literature, which is the primary source of information on shipping accidents. Unfortunately the
records are usually not precise enough to locate a wreck and in some cases they provide incomplete
or inaccurate information. The data has to be reviewed against a number of other sources of local knowledge to assess whether the wreck has been salvaged, whether it was refloated or even whether it is where it is supposed to be. We then use electronic equipment to pinpoint the exact
location of the wreck. Final identification and video is finally done with dives to the site. |

Entrada divers will form the core of the team, coordinated by the project manager.Other local divers will assist and participate in our endeavours. |

We will use a wide range of electronics equipment to facilitate the task of locating the wrecks, including chartplotter,sounder,GPS and proton magnetometer. |
